Newborn Care Services

While some El Paso newborn care services are offered in the hospital after your child’s birth, routine check-ups with a primary care pediatrician are crucial to ensuring your newborn is developing properly. Our newborn pediatricians will collect information about your baby’s:

- Length, weight, and head circumference
- Vision
- Hearing
- Sleeping habits
- Nursing or formula consumption

Each child receives a full physical exam and guidance on the latest vaccination guidelines.

When to Schedule Your Newborn Pediatric Visits

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) states that an appointment with your newborn’s pediatrician should be scheduled within 3 to 5 days after birth. From there, checkups should be scheduled at the following ages:

- 1 month
- 2 months
- 3 months
- 6 months
- 9 months
- 12 months
- 15 months
- 18 months
- 24 months
- 30 months
- 36 months

However, if your newborn requires specialized care for jaundice, weight issues, or feeding problems, they may need to be seen more frequently.

We accept most major health plans. However, we highly recommend contacting your health insurance provider to verify your coverage levels, co-pay, deductible, and co-insurance responsibilities.

Newborn Care FAQs

How do you ask about infant care?

Asking for help can seem intimidating, but don’t fret. Our team has answered hundreds of questions and assisted new and experienced parents on various issues. When looking for infant care, always inquire about safety, services, and staff qualifications to ensure your baby gets the care they need.

What are the 5 stages of newborn care?

The five stages of newborn care include:
1. Immediate care at birth (thorough drying, assessment of breathing, skin-to-skin contact, and more)\
2. Thermal care
3. Resuscitation (if required)
4. Feeding (breast milk or formula)
5. Infection prevention

What do I need to know about newborn care?

A primary concern of newborn care is uplifting the 5 stages of newborn care and many other things. This may include maintaining your personal hygiene before handling your baby, ensuring your baby gets quality sleep (16 to 17 hours), frequent feedings, routine bathing, and more.

How do I protect my baby from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)?

SIDS is the unexpected death of a baby under one year old. It often happens while a baby is asleep, and the risk is higher for babies who sleep on their stomachs. To lower the risks of sudden infant death syndrome, place babies on their backs to sleep, use a firm, leveled surface with a covered fitted sheet, and keep objects out of the baby’s sleep area.
